Nine Curves, the Fantastic Way
For the people of Riau and West Sumatra, the name of the Nine Curved (Kelok Sembilan) roads were familiar. Curved road was called the Nine, because it has curves (Minang language Kelok means turning) left and right as much as nine curves. When viewed from above, is a zig zag turns. Nine Curved built by the Dutch since 1908-1914.
Any vehicle traveling a route Pekanbaru - Padang, will surely pass Nine Curved. This path is a the closest to connect the two cities is approximately 350 km this. While Nine Curved itself is at a distance of 180 km from Pekanbaru direction, which is located on the sidelines of hill. Enjoying the scenery around Nine Curved can be done from the top road.

Still narrow streets it is not surprising if at times there is traffic jam. For example every Lebaran season will definitely happen in a traffic jam around the streets Curved Nine. Each there is traffic jam, the vehicle can be detained for hours. To overcome that problem, now under construction highways in the area. The feasibility study Curved Nine construction highways was completed last year by swallowing fund about Rp 2.2 billion. And now construction is underway.
The existence of this highways will facilitate the flow around it. Highway was built along the 4.5 kilometers it would be passed by at 80 km per hour. So the vehicles do not need anymore edged in Nine Curved roads which narrow.
However, although it has built highways, does not mean the function Curved Nine will be eliminated. Curved nine roads still enabled, especially for tourists. Because after all the historical and Nine Curved beauty can not be ignored.
Therefore worries some people that will lived nine Curved the name, it will not happen. In fact, with the highways, the preservation of Curved Nine will could continue happen. For later Curved Nine no longer accepted the burden too heavy which is increasing.
